Ural-Press files a lawsuit against Pavel Gusev
19.02.2013
The Ural-Press Group of Companies comprised of 22 subscription agencies in Russia, which deliver newspapers and periodicals to subscribers in 247 cities, from Murmansk to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, has filed a lawsuit against Pavel Gusev, the editor-in-chief of the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, chairman of the Committee for Mass Media Support of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, demanding refutation of false information and compensation for damage to reputation. On February 6, 2013 the Public Chamber conducted the hearing on the public expert examination of the federal draft law “On Postal Service”. Among other issues, the participants of the hearing discussed whether the new draft law would bring any changes in the situation regarding distribution of printed periodicals by subscription. During the discussion, Pavel Gusev delivered a speech where he materially distorted the really existing situation on the Russian subscription market. For example, Pavel Gusev argued that the Russian subscription market is divided between Russian Post FSUE and other market players, showing the ratio of 98 % to 2 %, respectively. Ural-Press believes that the information reported by Gusev is not true and can entail adverse consequences for all commercial entities operating on this market. The hearing was broadcast live and the recording of the hearing is publicly available. The Ural-Press Group of Companies thinks that Russian Post accounts for maximum 70 % of the subscription market. At the website of Russian Post, the data published on 09.08.2011 show that the share of Russian Post in the periodical subscription segment is 69 %.* * http://www.russianpost.ru/rp/press/ru/home/aboutus/item?newsid=4944
